The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, (CSMVS), Mumbai, has come up with the concept of a mobile museum — ‘Museum on Wheels’. Shiv Sena corporator Avkash Jadhav, who is also one of the trustees of CSMVS, is bringing the initiative to BMC schools.
The initiative will start with the Colaba Municipal School on December 8.
Designed as an interactive space for students, the museum includes display cases for objects installed within a customised air-conditioned bus. Apart from hosting an exhibition on a specific subject, the students will have the opportunity of learning from interactive demo kits, art supplies, audio-visual equipment and digital media.

Jadhav said the bus had already made trips to private schools and also planned to reach out to colleges, shopping malls, residential complexes, art and cultural institutions among other places.
“Students in BMC schools come from challenging backgrounds and it is not always possible for them to get this type of learning experience. We are making an attempt to introduce an outside classroom learning experience to them on their school premises,” he said.
After the Colaba Municipal School, Jadhav will try to take the bus to other civic schools which have parking facility on their premises.
