Mumbai: Toddler drowns at Juhu beach, mother survives

A two-and-a-half-year-old girl drowned while her mother survived after they are suspected to have been pulled in by the waves at the Juhu beach on Saturday morning. The police are questioning the people present at the spot to confirm that it was not a case of suicide.

The woman has been identified as Namrata Kavale, 28, who resides at Vakola, Santacruz (east), with her husband and daughter.

As per the police, the incident took place around 11.20 am when Namrata and her daughter Kavya were strolling at the beach. Few minutes later, the beach photographer saw them drown and alerted the lifeguards.

Manohar Shetty, a lifeguard deployed at the beach, said, “ We rushed to the spot and pulled them out with help from the National Disaster Response Force. While the woman responded to resuscitation, the child was motionless.

The two were then rushed to the nearby Cooper Hospital where the girl was declared dead while her mother survived.
