With the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) collaborating with Pawan Hans to offer helicopter joy rides for the public, you can now fly over major locations such as Juhu Beach, the Versova-Ghatkopar Metro, Essel World for just Rs 3,200. The service, a first by the state government in Mumbai, begins Thursday. This is keeping with MTDC decision to rope in private players to better the condition of its tourism infrastructure.
The service will be inaugurated at the Juhu Aerodrome at 9.30 am, in the presence of Chief Secretary Swadheen Kshatriya. Once successful, the MTDC plans to launch a similar service, which would give people an aerial view of south Mumbai and the city’s harbour. “This is the plan for the initial month. After receiving queries and feedback from the public after 30 days, we will alter the plan to make it price and time conscious. However, the service is a continuous one”, said Paraag Jaiin Nainuttiia, Managing Director, MTDC.
Talking about the financial aspect of the venture, Nainuttia said, “Our tie-up with Pawan Hans is based on the rates per minute. Since, the MTDC will be using the resources of Pawan Hans, which are already available, we have not invested anything in this tie-up.”
This apart, the MTDC has signed an agreement with Pawan Hans to initiate a similar service in Aurangabad, which would cover the Ajanta-Ellora caves. The service will commence once the minimum security arrangements are in place. “We are also planning to implement the service in Matheran, the coastal areas of Maharashtra and from Nagpur to Tadoba and Aurangabad to Lonavala”, added Nainuttia. The MTDC has also tied up with a resort and adventure sports outlet in Amravati, which it will promote and publicise to make people aware about these services.
