Mumbai: Man held for raping child

The incident took place around 10 pm Tuesday, when accused Sajid Khan, who was under the influence of narcotics, lured the girl to the loft of his house.

THE SHIVAJI NAGAR police on Wednesday arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl. The accused was produced before the local magistrate court and remanded to police custody for five days.

The incident took place around 10 pm Tuesday, when accused Sajid Khan, who was under the influence of narcotics, lured the girl to the loft of his house. He allegedly sexually assaulted her there and let her go. The crying girl later told her parents about the incident.

The parents alerted the Shivaji Nagar police, and officers subsequently arrested Khan on charges of rape and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO).

Assistant Police Inspector S Sawant said the accused was unemployed. The officer added that the Shivaji Nagar area registers a high number of POCSO cases.
