A fire broke out in a building in Chandivli Tuesday evening, killing one and injuring two members of a family. Police said the fire broke out at 4 pm in flat no 902 in Shivam Tower. The police and fire brigade rescued Nandlal Marwani (67) and Tarun Marwani (34) but were unable to save Chetna Marwani (38).

They said Nandlal was physically disabled and used a wheelchair, while Chetna was mentally challenged. The police said Nandlal and Tarun were first rushed to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar and later shifted to Hiranandani Hospital in Powai.

Avinash Dharmadhikari, senior inspector at Saki Naka police station, said the cause of the fire would be known after the probe.

“The building is newly constructed and has safety equipment, but the fire alarm did not go off,” he said.
