MAHARASHTRA PRADESH Congress Committee (MPCC) General Secretary and party spokesperson Mahadev Shelar (64) committed suicide at his Mulund residence on Saturday.
Shelar hanged himself from a ceiling fan in the afternoon when his wife had gone out. He left behind a suicide note saying he was tired of the ailments he was suffering from, because of which he was taking his life. The Mulund police have filed an Accidental Death Report and are investigating the matter.
DCP (zone 7) Akhilesh Singh said, “Shelar committed suicide at his residence on Saturday afternoon. He has left behind a suicide note saying that he had killed himself as he was tired of diabetes and related ailments.” An officer from the Mulund police said the incident took place around 2.30 pm at Shelar’s house in Mulund (West).
“He went to the bedroom and hanged himself from the ceiling fan with a nylon rope. When his wife returned home some time later, she found him hanging from the ceiling fan,” the officer said. Congress leader Sushilkumar Shinde said, “I am really pained to hear the news.”
