MMRDA will float global bids in search of an architect to design an Ambedkar memorial in Mumbai,metropolitan commissioner U P S Madan told a chief minister-appointed high-powered committee,which met Friday to discuss the matter.
MMRDA will prepare a concept plan before calling bids from international architects. The winning bid will be selected by a government-appointed panel of architects and technical experts.
MMRDA is the special planning authority for the memorial.
Meanwhile,CM Prithviraj Chavan directed officials to finalise a draft plan for the project at a meeting with the central environment department next week.
He also asked members of the high-powered committee to suggest how the memorial should be.
The state is awaiting a final approval from the Union environment ministry for the project.
It has proposed modification in norms to allow transfer of rights to develop 12.5 acres at Indu Mills for the memorial.
