June began on a hot note with Colaba recording 35.5 ° C on Friday and Santacruz recording 34.5 °C .

Maximum temperatures all through May were around 33-34 degrees due to the westerly winds, which bring moisture and thus control temperatures but Thursday saw the month’s hottest day with Colaba recording 35.2 ° C and Santacruz recording 33.6 ° C.

On Friday, the island city’s maximum temperature was around two degrees above normal while in the suburbs it was around a degree above normal. Minimum temperatures were 28.4 ° C and 28.6 °C in Colaba and Santacruz respectively.

The Met department, however, said the change was only a daily variation. “The temperatures are slightly above normal. The change is marginal and not very significant. It’s only a day to day fluctuation,” said V K Rajeev, director IMD.
