A SESSIONS court sentenced a man to four years’ imprisonment for theft at the residence of actor Bhagyashree’s parents-in-law in 2014. Sanjaykumar Nishad was convicted under Section 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison, etc, with intent to commit an offence) Wednesday.
Nishad, who worked as a domestic help at the residence of the actor’s in-laws in Vile Parle, was also charged under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 380 (theft) and 120 (criminal conspiracy) but was acquitted of these charges. Nishad had claimed in his defence that there was no intention or conspiracy to murder the couple. The incident had occurred in 2014 in Irla, Vile Parle, where the actor’s senior citizen in-laws, Pannalal Dasani and Shakuntala, stayed. The two were found in an unconscious state in their first floor apartment, their domestic help was missing and valuables worth Rs 25 lakh were stolen.
The prosecution claimed that Nishad in the morning had served the couple coffee with sleeping pills to ensure there was no resistance from them during the theft.
Two of the accused including Nishad were arrested a year later in June 2015 when they were apprehended for another robbery.
