A 57-year-old man was arrested by D B Marg police on Monday for allegedly impersonating a police officer and threatening a traffic constable that he would complain about him to his superiors. The accused,Krishnakumar Dalvi,was arrested after the policeman registered a complaint with the D B Marg police. He was later released on bail.
Police said the incident took place near Apsara Cinema on Grant Road on Sunday. The constable had been on nakabandi duty at the spot to nab offenders who drink and drive. Around 11.45 pm,a Toyota Innova was stopped for checking. During the checking,Dalvi introduced himself as a police officer and claimed that the driver was from his native place, inspector Ajit Surve said.
Surve said Dalvi then threatened the traffic constable. He told constable Vishal Mane that he would call up his seniors to complain. He then began abusing Mane. He was apprehended, Surve said.
Dalvi has been booked under Sections 170 (impersonating a public servant),353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from doing duty),504 (intentional insult to provoke peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
