Police said Inderjeet Singh (30) and his accomplice Pathan confronted businessman Ritesh Balotia (41) outside the latter’s house on Thakkarbaba Road in Nehrunagar around 11.30 pm.

When Balotia raised an alarm,Singh told him that he would return the next day and demanded Rs 2 lakh from him before fleeing.

Balotia then informed police who arrested Inderjeet at a nakabandi. Pathan managed to escape, said an officer.

Senior inspector Suresh Pawar said Inderjeet was serving a life term in Nashik jail. In 2012,he was granted parole but did not return. “We had written to the jail authorities that letting him out on parole was not advisable,” said Pawar.
