Sakinaka police Sunday arrested a 29-year-old man who allegedly stabbed his wife with a kitchen knife after hitting her with an iron rod.
Police said Vikas Iswe,who is unemployed,killed his wife as he suspected her character. Iswe,the police claim,surrendered to the police.
Vikas and his wife,Durga (40) had been married for the past eight years and have three children. The family resided at Sunderbag in Sakinaka,Andheri (East). Vikas is Durgas second husband,police said.
There were frequent quarrels between the couple for the past five years as Vikas had suspected that Durga was having an affair with a man in the neighbourhood.
Police said on Sunday,Vikas returned home in an inebriated condition and started shouting at his wife.
He then hit her on the head with an iron rod and later stabbed her with a kitchen knife.
Police said Vikas then went to the Sakinaka police station and turned himself in.
He was booked and arrested under Indian Penal Code section 302 for murder. Durga,meanwhile,was declared dead at a nearby hospital.
Durgas body was handed over to her family. Vikas does not have a past criminal record. He said he committed the crime in a fit of rage. A probe is on, said an officer.Vikas,police said,will be produced before a metropolitan magistrate court on Monday.
Man found murdered
The body of a 35-year-old man was found in the mangroves off Sion-Panvel Highway with multiple stab injuries Sunday. Mankhurd police said the victim was yet to be identified. The body was sent to Rajawadi hospital for postmortem.
