A 20-year-old man was arrested by the Mankhurd Police on Monday for allegedly murdering his 25-year-old brother over a monetary dispute. The police said the victim was stabbed repeatedly after a dispute involving the family business turned ugly.

The police identified the deceased has been identified as Firoz Idrissi (25). Firoz’s brother Mushir (20) was arrested in connection with the case.

Firoz and Mushir, both Indira Nagar residents, had an argument over their family business in Dharavi, the police said. “Firoz and Mushir ran a tailor’s shop in Dharavi. They had suffered losses in business and their shop had not been doing well lately. Mushir wanted money to set up his own business. However,Firoz did not want him to leave the family business and wanted him to work with him,” said an officer.

The officer said both brothers assaulted each other, while family members looked on.

“Mushir picked up a pair of tailoring scissors that was nearby and stabbed Firoz repeatedly on the chest,” said the officer. Firoz’s wife Hazra informed the police.

“A police team rushed to the spot. Firoz had been taken to hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Mushir had locked himself up in the house and refused to come out. Our personnel told them that they would break open the door. He then opened the door and was arrested,” said the officer. Officers said doctors have informed the police that Firoz died as vital organs including his heart and chest were punctured due to repeated stabbing. Mushir has been charged under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
