Man held for assaulting,robbing senior citizen

MUMBAI Police Crime Branch Friday arrested a 30-year-old man who allegedly assaulted and robbed a senior citizen in Borivali (West) Wednesday night.

MUMBAI Police Crime Branch Friday arrested a 30-year-old man who allegedly assaulted and robbed a senior citizen in Borivali (West) Wednesday night.

Victim Narendra Doshi (65) runs Rajashree Lottery at Vazira Naka in Borivali and accused Abdul Rehman Shaikh of Ashtvinayak transit camp in Borivali (West) was his customer.

Police said at 9.30 pm Wednesday,Doshi’s sole employee Babu left for the day locking the shop door,while Doshi stayed back to tally accounts. At 11 pm,his daughter Shweta,worried that her father had not returned home,went to check at the shop and found him lying on the floor. He was admitted to Apex Hospital in Borivali with head injuries.

The victim told police at 10.30 pm,the attacker knocked on the rear entrance. The victim reportedly let him in,following which the accused hit Doshi repeatedly with a paver block and fled with his cell phone and Rs 18,000.

“The victim said one of his customers was behind the attack. We detained 15-20 customers of Doshi. On questioning,Shaikh confessed to the crime,” an officer from unit 11 of Crime Branch said.
