The Mumbai Police Crime Branch arrested a man from Jharkhand earlier this week for the murder of a woman in the city. The police are now looking for the woman’s husband, who is alleged to have had her killed on the suspicion of infidelity.

The deceased, Kandivli resident Priyanka Verma (25), was found dead on the tracks between Kandivli and Borivli railway stations early on the morning of November 14. A post-mortem revealed that Verma had been murdered and her body dumped on the tracks to make it appear as a train accident, the Government Railway Police said.

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch, which was also investigating the case, travelled to Hazaribagh in Jharkhand and arrested Gautamkumar Gupta (21). “We obtained transit remand of the accused and handed his custody over to the GRP on Saturday,” said Shahshikant Satav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime).

The police is looking for the woman’s husband, Dinesh Verma. “The husband suspected that the woman was having an extramarital affair and conspired to murder her,” Satav added.

Deepak Devraj, Deputy Commissioner of Police, GRP said the link between the two accused will be clear once we arrest the husband.
