Man claims threat from ‘Chhota Shakeel’

Congress member and south Mumbai businessman Majeed Shahadat has allegedly received threat calls from a man who claimed to be gangster Chhota Shakeel. Mumbai crime branch is investigating.

Shahadat of Do Taaki area filed several RTI applications against Anjuman-I-Islam foundation,which has several educational institutes in Mumbai and other areas. He claimed 70 per cent of foundation constructions were illegal and the caller wanted him to stop probing.

“I received five-six calls from 10 to 11.30 Friday night. A man identified himself as Faheem said Shakeel bhai was on line via conference. The second man identified himself as Chhota Shakeel and told me to stop my activities,failing which there would be dire consequences,” Shahadat said.

He reported the matter to the crime branch and also submitted a CD containing recordings of some of the calls. Crime branch chief Himanshu Roy said: “The anti-extortion cell has been given the case to investigate.”

Anjuman-I-Islam president Zahir Kazi refused to comment.
