In a Saturday night murder,a driver from Nalasopara allegedly smashed the head of a tantrik with an iron rod, threw him out of his moving taxi and then ran over him to make sure he was dead. The cool cab driver claimed the tantrik had been duping him for five years.

Police said driver Bachchan Shamdev Thakur (36) used to give part of his earnings to tantrik Dinesh Chaurasya (45) for pujas and havans to remove flaws in his horoscope and improve his financial condition.

But with no improvement in his finances even after five years,he got frustrated and decided to kill the tantrik.

Saturday night,Thakur allegedly rang up Chaurasya and asked him to come to a place near his house at Santosh Bhavan in Nalasopara (East) at 11 pm. The father of three allegedly picked up the tantrik and drove towards Vajreshwari Road. During the journey,he allegedly asked him whether he knew the problems in his own horoscope.

“The tantrik said his horoscope did not have any problems,to which Thakur asked Chaurasya whether he knew he was going to be killed that night,” said assistant police inspector T F Patil.

He said Chaurasya tried to escape, but Thakur took out a rod kept beside his seat and began hitting on his head till he was drenched in blood. Thakur then allegedly pushed Chaurasya out of the moving taxi, and to make sure he was dead, ran over him and drove away.

“In the wee hours of Sunday,we received a call from a local that he had seen a cab run over a man on Vajreshwari Road. The local had noted down the number of the cool cab. We found out Thakur’s address and arrested him,” Patil said.
