Man arrested for ‘sexually abusing’ 7-year-old

On Thursday, the victim visited the accused’s residence at around 5:30 pm while he was alone in the house.

The Kandivali police have arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly sexually abusing his neighbour’s seven-year-old daughter in his residence on Thursday. The accused was arrested on Friday night after the victim’s parents approached the police.

According to the Kandivali police, the victim frequently visited the accused’s residence to watch television along with other children in the locality.

On Thursday, the victim visited the accused’s residence at around 5:30 pm while he was alone in the house. His brother, with whom he stays, was at work at the time.

“After the incident, the victim ran to her house and told her parents about what had happened. Her parents, after discussing the matter, approached us late on Thursday night, and we registered a complaint of rape against him under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,” said an officer with the Kandivali police.

The accused was picked up from his house on Friday evening and questioned, after which he was placed under arrest, the police said.
