Man arrested for ‘raping’ deaf-mute maid

Udmale has been charged with rape and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code. The court remanded him to police custody till May 29, the police said.

The Mankhurd police have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly raping his hearing and speech impaired housemaid repeatedly over the past six months. The accused has been identified as Siddharth Udmale (24), a resident of the Lallubhai Compound in Mankhurd, where he stays with his parents and brother. The police said the victim had been working as a housemaid at Udmale’s residence for six to seven months. “A few days ago, the victim’s mother noticed that her belly was unusually distended and took her to a doctor, after which it came to light that she was pregnant. Through signs she conveyed that she had been raped by Udmale. On Thursday, they came to the police station and we registered a complaint,” said police inspector Chandrashekhar Nalawade, Mankhurd police station. Udmale has been charged with rape and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code. The court remanded him to police custody till May 29, the police said.
