The Wadala TT police have arrested the 22-year-old man who allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted his 11-year-old relative for nearly two months earlier this year.
The victim, an orphan, stays with her relatives in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, and had come to Mumbai with her uncle on May 25. They were staying in Sion Koliwada and on June 17, she was kidnapped by her 21-year-old relative, after which her uncle approached the police. Following the accused through his phone records, the police traced him to Ambala, Haryana and ultimately to Azamgarh.
Working with the police in Azamgarh, the Wadala TT police rescued the victim from the house of one of the accused’s relatives on August 13 this year.
The accused, who worked as a part-time electrician, boarded a train to Mumbai on September 1 from Azamgarh.
“As soon as the accused arrived at Kalyan railway station on the evening of September 2, we nabbed him,” Garud said.
The police have booked him for kidnapping, rape and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code.
Sion school watchman arrested for ‘raping’ 7-year-old student
The Antop Hill police on Thursday arrested a watchman with a private school in Sion for allegedly raping a seven-year-old student. Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni said, “The accused has been identified as Mukesh Mishra (37), who has been working with the school for the past three months”. The police said the incident took place within the school premises on Wednesday. “The victim attends extra classes at the school and on Wednesday, after the extra classes, she was waiting for regular classes to begin when Mishra took her behind the school building and raped her,” said an officer. On Thursday morning, the victim’s family and friends went to the school, assaulted the watchman and handed him over to the police. Mishra has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
