A 28-year-old gymnastics teacher, who frequently drove on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway with his friends, was arrested for allegedly possessing a fake police identity card that he used primarily to avoid paying highway toll charges, police said. Police said Chembur resident Rahul Tayade was nabbed last week while he was returning from Pune with two of his friends.
“The trio were heading back to Mumbai after purchasing dhol and tasha from Pune for the upcoming Ganesh festival. Tayade was driving his Innova with a sign on the windshield that said ‘Police’. Tayade was stopped at a Nakabandi on the Sion-Panvel Highway by the Panjabwadi police and quizzed,” said a police officer. Police said Tayade was unable to explain specific questions related to his “police identity”.
