Citizens will have to brace for major water cuts on Monday and Tuesday owing to developmental works under the Middle Vaitarna Project.

The city will face a 10 per cent water cut due to upgrade work of the water pipelines. The civic administration will carry out the work of making cross-connections between Vaitarna with Middle Vaitarna water mains at two places between Tarali and Kasheli section outside the city,said officials. “The work will start at 10 am on October 10 and will be complete by 11 am on October 11,” said a civic official. The Rs 1,600-crore Middle Vaitarna Project is scheduled to be completed by April 2012 and is expected to bring an additional Rs 455 million litres of water per day to the city.

Meanwhile,due to heavy leakage on the main water pipeline at Damu Pada and Gundecha Layout in Kandivali ( E),there will be no water supply in many parts of the western suburbs from Tuesday evening to Wednesday morning. The civic administration has planned to isolate the inlet of Borivali Reservoir No 1 and the outlet of Malad Hill Reservoir in order to carry out repair works.

“On account of proposed isolation,parts of the western suburbs will receive no water supply from 5.30 pm on October 11 to 5.30 am on October 12,” said a civic official. According to officials,the areas affected will be Appapada and Bhim Nagar areas of Malad (E) in P/North ward; Lokhandwala Township,part of Hanuman Nagar,Barkya Compound,Janupada-Vaibhavnagar,Damunagar,RNA Layout,Kelipada,Samata Nagar,Gangabawadi,Thakur Village,Raheja Complex of Kandivali (E) in R/South Ward and also Om- Kareshwar area of Borivali (E) in R/ Central ward.
