Maharashtra brings back LBT for liquor, ethanol products

The government waived the local body tax for traders with a turnover lower than Rs 50 crore across 25 municipal corporations in the state, except the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

Cost of liquor and ethanol-based products is likely to increase soon in Maharashtra with the state government having decided to impose a local body tax on these items for all small traders with a turnover less than Rs 50 crore in municipal corporation areas, except Mumbai.

The state cabinet took this decision on Tuesday to help reduce the losses that municipal corporations in Maharashtra have been facing after the government scrapped local body tax on all items for small traders in August last year, the state government said in a statement.

The government waived the local body tax for traders with a turnover lower than Rs 50 crore across 25 municipal corporations in the state, except the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
