The Federation of Associations of Maharashtra (FAM) has decided to start a jail bharo andolan against Local Body Tax (LBT) from Thursday, said Ashok Garg, chairman of Iron and Steel Merchants Association.

The decision comes after the government Monday asked traders to draw up a list of grievances and warned them of dire consequences if the strike did not end.

Garg said,“We do not want LBT,so the question of drawing up a list of grievances does not arise.” He added that the decision to involve retailers in the strike would be taken by Wednesday evening.

However, most retailers have decided to opt out of the agitation. Viren Shah, president of Retailers Association said though they would keep their shops open, they would continue to protest against LBT regime.
