The marriage of films and fashion in India is not an easy one with the former often stealing the limelight from the latter. On Friday evening though,no one seemed to be complaining as the curtains went up on the debut collection by Divani,Indias first cinema inspired fashion label. Launched on the occasion of the 81st birth anniversary of the late filmmaker Yash Chopra,in collaboration with the Delhi-based Karol Bagh Sari House (KBSH),the glamour quotient of this collection was upped by a bevy of nine Bollywood beauties, each of whom represented a different era of Indian cinema. The show, held at Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai, began post the special screening of a video capturing Chopras vision of the quintessential Indian woman. Anushka Sharma channelled her inner Nargis as she appeared on the ramp in a black sari. Then came Parineeti Chopra wearing a heavily embroidered red and gold red lehenga, followed by Rekha who looked stunning in a silk gold sari. Ornate lehengas also found takers in Katrina Kaif,Juhi Chawla,Preity Zinta,Sridevi and Rani Mukerji, while Madhuri Dixit-Nene was togged out in a black and golden sequinned saree. But it was Chopras leading man Shah Rukh Khan who brought the evening together with his witticisms even as the ladies recollected their fondest memories of the filmmaker. All in all,a fitting way to celebrate the legacy of a man who is best known for his glamorous portrayal of women in Indian cinema.
