Four-year-old Lucky Yelagurti, who was kidnapped from Juhu by his neighbour Padma on Monday, was brought back from Andhra Pradesh and reunited with his family on Friday.
The police were, however, unable to arrest Padma.
A team had left for Hyderabad on Monday to rescue Lucky.
Based on a tip-off,the team on Tuesday visited a village named Lakshmipeth in Andhra Pradesh where Padma had allegedly taken the child.
During inquiries,a villager informed the police that the woman had left the child and fled.
Police said Padma had left the boy with a neighbour and told them to return him to whoever came in search of the child.
Despite searching the entire village,Padma was not to be found.
The police team then left for Mumbai on Wednesday and reunited Lucky with his family, who work as daily-wage labourers,on Friday. My child has come back and I am very happy. I do not care if Padma is arrested, said Sunita,Luckys mother.
Meanwhile sources said some persons have been kept under surveillance as the accused is still wanted.
“We are happy to get the child and further investigation is on to trace Padma, said Sub Inspector Arun Khopkar,of Juhu police station.
Police said there was still no clarity on whether Padma had abducted the child merely for ransom.
Lucky was kidnapped while playing outside his house in Nehru Nagar area in Juhu on Monday evening.
Police said Padma,a resident of the same locality, had demanded a ransom of Rs 5,000.
