An unbeaten century by Sagar Kerkar helped Sunil Gavaskar XI take a vital first innings lead of 96 runs over Sachin Tendulkar XI on the second day of the three day under-25 Madhav Mantri Trophy played at Police Gymkhana on Monday.
Kerkar’s unbeaten knock of 117,which had six sixes and 12 boundaries was his second century of the tournament. Earlier Tendulkar XI made 261 where captain Shahsank Singh (90) and Manish Rao (64) were the main rungetters,while medium
pacer Prathamesh Dake captured five for 50 and John Abraham took three wickets for 80.
Half centuries by Kevin Almeida and Rahul Lad enabled Ravi Shastri XI to hit up 418 against Dilip Vengsarkar XI at Cross Maidan. Openers Salvi and Almeida put on 203 runs in 272 balls and laid the foundation. Left arm spinner Hemant Buchade
captured eight wickets for 99 runs in 30.3 overs.
In reply Vengsarkar XI were bowled out for 216 with Sachin Yadav being the top scorer with 49. Off spinner Ankush Jaiswal was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets for 69.
