Jai Ho: laurels for team that set Slumdog to sound of music

A R Rahman gets call-up from Jay Leno show

In yet another instance of the worldwide acclaim garnered by Danny Boyle-directed Slumdog Millionaire,its music director A R Rahman is slated to perform live on one of America’s most popular late-night talk show,The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

The show,which is watched by millions worldwide,is considered to be among the definitive platforms for international recognition.

Rahman,acclaimed Indian music director,has already won numerous international awards for his compositions in Slumdog Millionaire,including the Golden Globe and BAFTA Awards for Best Music Score,and has got three nominations for the upcoming Academy Awards,popularly known as the Oscars.

He will be performing on the stage which has been graced by other musical greats like James Morrison,Celine Dion,Barry Manilow,Coldplay and Tracy Chapman. Indian viewers can catch him perform live on February 20 at 10 PM on Zee Café. The song list for the episode remains a secret but the maestro is expected to play his Oscar-nominated song Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire. Rahman will be accompanied on the show by the leading lady of the movie,Freida Pinto.
