Man who used Naik to threaten his partner held
The Mumbai Police Crime Branch arrested owner of a fish-therapy pedicure firm on Monday for allegedly using former gangster Ashwin Naik to threaten his partner. The arrested has been identified as Hashim Gaya. Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy,who confirmed the arrest,said,Gaya is the main accused,along with Naik and three others. The complainant had told us that Gaya used Naik to persuade the complainant to forgo Rs 16 lakh that was due to him. In his complaint,he has alleged that one of Naiks men placed a revolver to the side of his head and forced him to sign documents.
High Court asks coastal authority to form panels to clear proposals
The Bombay High Court has asked the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) to consider setting up committees to decide on proposals for redevelopment of buildings in Coastal Regulatory Zone II. The court made the suggestion in response to a plea filed by a developer,Rajendra Godshalwar,who has been entrusted with the redevelopment of a dilapidated building near Shivaji Park. In their order,the judges noted that it is not possible for the authority to hold frequent meetings,which could result in delay of environmental clearances.
HC: Is state willing to protect officials inspecting abattoirs?
THE Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed the Maharashtra government to state whether it is willing to provide police protection to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials who inspect abattoirs in the city. This was after the civic body expressed the need for protection,citing threats from persons who work at the Deonar slaughterhouse. A PIL in the matter has been filed by activist Ganesh Nakhate.
