Mumbai Police have ensured high security arrangements for the IPL matches to be played at Wankhede Stadium, officers said on the eve of the first match. Of the eight matches to be played at the stadium, five will be in April and the remaining in May.

Senior police officers said adequate personnel will be deployed for all the matches. Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Rajnish Seth said a heavy security cordon would be in place around the stadium during the matches. He added that Quick Response Teams would be on standby.

“While there are no intelligence inputs suggesting any threat to the matches, there will be adequate and tight security. ACP (South Region) will be supervising the security at the stadium. We have not asked for additional personnel from the State Reserve Police Force so far.”

Traffic police have also come out with a plan for spectators. DCP (Traffic- Headquarters) Namdeo Chavan, who currently holds additional charge of the South Traffic Division, said the police have classified many roads as one-ways. “The N S Road in Marine Drive and all other roads in the vicinity will be one-way from 1 pm to 9 pm for afternoon matches. The same roads will also be one-way from 5 pm to 12 am for evening matches.”

He said parking will be prohibited from 1 pm to 9 pm for afternoon matches, and 5 pm to 12 am for evening matches in the vicinity of the stadium. “The various gymkhanas on Marine Drive stretch, the area behind Trident Hotel,Dorabji Tata Road in Nariman Point,NCPA Road,CR2,Maharshi Karve Road and an area near Samrat Hotel have been designated as parking spots,” said Chavan.
