Bombay High Court (HC) expedited Monday an appeal by actor Shiney Ahuja against his conviction in a rape case and listed it for hearing in the third week of August.

Ahuja, sentenced to seven years, told the court he had not been able to start life anew.

In March 2011,a fast-track court held the actor guilty of raping a 20-year-old maid in his Andheri residence in June 2010. A month after his conviction,Ahuja appealed in HC and was released on bail.

Ahuja has termed the trial court order “perverse and illegal”. He said the alleged victim denied rape, sexual intercourse or threat. She also said her love for Ahuja was one-sided and that she filed a complaint against him at the behest of Rekha Mane, who got her the job in his house.

“Even medical evidence is negative. There were no injuries on the girl’s body. Even the semen and blood samples were negative for Shiney’s DNA.”
