A 36-year-old woman, who was working as a domestic help for a couple in Bhakti Park, Wadala, was found hanging from the window grill of her employers’ house on Monday. Although no suicide note was found, the victim’s father has reportedly told the police that her troubled marriage might have been the reason behind her taking the extreme step.

Wadala TT police identified the deceased as Bhavna More (36), who used to work for and stay with Rahul Mascarenhas and Chiara D’costa in their fifth floor apartment in Jupiter building in Bhakti Park.

Bhavna used to take care of the couple’s four-year-old daughter along with another domestic help and had been working for the couple for nearly a year, the police said.

According to Chiara D’costa, Bhavna’s behaviour was normal on Sunday night, when she put their daughter to sleep around 10 pm as per her daily routine and retired for the day.

“I was awakened by the watchman frantically ringing the doorbell in the morning, after which I went to Bhavna’s room to to ask her why she wasn’t answering the door and found her hanging,” said D’costa.

The couple then called the police, who reached the spot and conducted a panchnama. Bhavna was taken to Sion hospital where she was declared dead before admission.

Bhavna’s father has told police he believes that his daughter’s troubled marriage, that kept her away from her 14-year-old daughter for the past seven years, could be a possible motive for his daughter to take the extreme step,” said sub-inspector G R Dhumal.

The police said that Bhavna’s husband, Bharat, lives with his daughter in CBD, Belapur after a dispute drove the couple apart.
