Help arrives for veteran cricket coach

A day after The Indian Express reported the plight of veteran Podar College and Dadar Union coach Vitthal S Patil,help arrived from Shiv Sena youth wing president Aditya Thackeray.

A day after The Indian Express reported the plight of veteran Podar College and Dadar Union coach Vitthal S Patil,help arrived from Shiv Sena youth wing president Aditya Thackeray.

Thackeray Jr sent his party workers to Patil’s residence in Matunga and made sure his basic needs were being taken care of. “They (Shiv Sena) came home in the afternoon and enquired about my health,” Patil said.

The coach,a bachelor for life,coached the likes of Dilip Vengsarkar,Ravi Shastri,Sanjay Manjrekar and others. The 86-year-old came back home few days ago after nearly a week in hospital.

Manjrekar said Patil had devoted his life to Mumbai cricket. “He stood for integrity. He never did anything that he thought was not right or against his principles,” Manjrekar said.
