THE POLICE arrested four persons on Saturday in connection with a December 6 armed robbery at a doctor’s bungalow in Navi Mumbai. The accused — Vinodkumar Kishor Vaishnav (31), Rony Jerrom Lobo (31), Asruddin Badruddin Khan (24) and Himmat Suraj Singh (22) — had allegedly robbed jewellery worth Rs 72,000 and 3,000 Australian dollars from the doctor’s residence.

All four were arrested in Sion-Koliwada following a tip-off. The police has recovered 600 Australia dollars and a country-made pistol with live rounds, along with a Bajaj Pulsar 220 motorcycle which was stolen from Andheri, from their possession.

On December 6, the four had forcibly entered the doctor’s bungalow in his absence and had threatened his domestic help with a gun and a knife. A case under Sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, read with Sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act, have been registered at NRI police station in Navi Mumbai.

According to the police, Vaishnav and Khan had been previously accused in several cases, including robbery and extortion.
