The Social Service (SS) branch of the Mumbai Police raided four bars in Kashimira and detained the managers and 71 women working in them. The case was later handed over to the Kashimira police under the Thane Rural Police as the area does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Mumbai Police. The persons detained were allowed to go after preliminary inquiries.

The raid took place on four establishments near the check-naka on the Western Express Highway leading to Kashimira.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (SS Branch) Vasant Dhobale said the police raided the four establishments after receiving information that there was a possibility that illicit activities were taking place.

“We raided the four bars and detained 71 women and the four managers. They were handed over to the Kashimira Police,” said Dhobale.

Superintendent of Police (Thane Rural) Rajeshkumar Mor said the SS Branch may have conducted the raids as the bars are located very close to the Mumbai Police’s jurisdiction. Mor,however, said no one was detained.

“This was routine work. No one was detained. There was some problem regarding licences of the establishments, which they had to show. We let every one go immediately,” Mor added.
