The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel on Friday morning detained a foreign national on grounds of suspicion at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA).

The foreigner, reportedly a Dubai national, had been coming to the airport for the last three consecutive days and was eventually rounded up by security officials on the third day, sources told Newsline. “He is a UAE national and has come to India three times since January,” said a CISF officer. “We detained him after he was unable to give satisfactory answers to our questions,” he added. “He was picked up this morning by the CISF at about 3 am,” said an airport official.

Dilip Patil, senior police inspector at Sahar police station confirmed the incident but refused to give further details saying the matter was under investigations. “We are investigating the matter and are checking his antecedents,” Patil said. The foreign national’s identity was yet to be ascertained.

Another reason why authorities are not taking any chances with him is the fact that he is from Dubai — dubbed as a sensitive sector by airport security authorities. “He has been acting restlessly. He could be mentally depressed but he is a foreign national and from Dubai, and we could not take any chances,” said the CISF officer. However, sources said that the man had been coming to the airport looking for somebody to help him with air tickets to Dubai,as he had no money on him.

“But nothing has been ascertained yet,” said another police officer of Sahar police station.
