Five-year-old raped,youth held

A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly kidnapped and raped a minor in Oshiwara Sunday night.

A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly kidnapped and raped a minor in Oshiwara Sunday night. The victim,a five-year-old girl,was left bleeding for two hours after the sexual,police said,adding that the suspect,Salman Ejat,was a drug addict who had recently migrated to the city.

Police said the girl was playing with her siblings outside her house in Oshiwara around 7.30 pm when Ejat spotted her and offered a her with a toffee. “He took her to a secluded spot behind Tukaram Ombale Garden. He was inebriated when he raped her,” said Narsingh Sherkhane,assistant commissioner of police (Oshiwara division).

The girl’s uncle,who is disabled,saw Ejat carrying her but could not keep up with him. He alerted the family members,who began searching for her. The local police was also informed of the incident,said the officer. The police also launched a search operation. Over two hours later,a pedestrian heard the girl’s cries and found her bleeding,said the officer.

The police then searched for drug addicts and peddlers in the vicinity and rounded up 26 men. Ejat was brought to the police station late at night and the girl and her uncle identified him,said Ravindra Patil,inspector. “He was sent to Nagpada hospital for medical check-up,” said Patil.

Police said Ejat,who hails from Kolkata,came to Mumbai after he was hired by a firm here,and was living in a Jogeshwari slum.
