Five killed as car rams into state transport bus

Five persons were killed on Sunday morning after the Indica in which they were travelling rammed into a state transport bus while trying to overtake a truck on the Mumbai-Goa Highway near Khar Pali.

Five persons were killed on Sunday morning after the Indica in which they were travelling rammed into a state transport bus while trying to overtake a truck on the Mumbai-Goa Highway near Khar Pali.

The victims have been identified as the driver,Dinesh Patil (26),Suresh Patil (27),Ravindra Lad (40),Ravindra Shivalkar (35) and Anmol Sawant (43). Dinesh,Suresh and Lad were residents of Mulund,Shivalkar was a resident of Bhandup and Sawant of Kala Chowkie.

The police have arrested the driver of the state transport bus,Ashish Dabke (31),and charged him with rash and negligent driving. Some passengers of the bus were also injured.

An officer from the Wadkhal police station said the accident took place seven kilometres from Khar Pali at around 3 am on Sunday. “The victims were on their way to Ratnagiri. The driver of the Indica tried to overtake a truck and did not notice the bus coming from the opposite direction,” said an officer.

“The five were rushed to Pen Hospital,but declared dead on arrival,” said the officer. “We are probing to see if the bus driver was at fault,” said the officer.

Dabke will be produced in court on Monday.
