Five held for circulating obscene texts on WhatsApp

The men have been charged with molestation and outraging the modesty of a woman under the IPC.

The Colaba police station arrested five men employed at the Bombay Presidency Radio Club Ltd on Tuesday for allegedly circulating obscene messages targeted at two female colleagues.

“The accused had taken pictures of the Ganeshotsav celebrations at his home and gave his phone to the complainant to show her the pictures. However, the complainant accidentally stumbled upon a WhatsApp group on the phone in which the men had passed obscene remarks against the two women,” said Rameshwar Suaple, senior inspector, Colaba police station.

“We have arrested five men and seized their cell phones,” he said. The accused work as waiters and cashiers at the Club. The men have been charged with molestation and outraging the modesty of a woman under the IPC.
