The Nashik anti-corruption bureau (ACB) has claimed PWD awarded contracts worth nearly Rs 3 crore to Oneness Construction,a company owned by arrested engineer Jagdish Wagh’s wife Deepali,in the past five years.

Wagh, posted in Nashik in 2008,and executive engineer Satish Chikhlikar were arrested in April 30 for allegedly accepting bribe from a contractor. Probe revealed they had accumulated assets worth a whopping Rs 17 crore and Rs 2.85 crore.

“Oneness bagged contracts worth Rs 3 crore from PWD. We have sought details of each contract,” said superintendent of police Shashikant Mahavarkar,Nashik ACB.

Another ACB officer accused PWD of delaying the documents.

“We have been told most employees were on leave during school and college holidays. We have now learned that several of these employees have prolonged their leaves,” he said.

ACB said the difference between Chikhlikar’s salary and assets was Rs 13.54 crore, while that for Wagh was Rs 2.39 crore.

“Chikhlikar is supposed to have earned Rs 46 lakh in salary in his 17 years of service, while Wagh has been paid Rs 34 lakh in his 15 years. Even if we deduct 33 per cent of this for basic expenses such as food, clothing and accomodation, the difference is still huge,” Mahavarkar said.

After receiving reports of their salaries,ACB last week registered seperate complaints of amassing disproportionate assets against Chikhlikar and his wife Swati as well as against Wagh and his wife Deepali.

Mahavarkar said chargesheet in the bribery case would be filed this month.
