A TEAM from the US Drug Exforcement Agency Tuesday visited the Solapur plant of Avon Lifesciences Limited from where nearly 20.5 tonnes of Ephedrine was seized last month. The US agency that had been monitoring the activities of some accused arrested by the Thane police found that the Ephedrine from the plant was linked to party drug Meth being smuggled to the US.

An officer linked to the probe said a two-member team reached the plant Tuesday accompanied by officers from the Thane police. “Ephedrine was also being exported to the US for medicinal purposes. They are checking if the company had the relevant permissions from the American Food and Drug Administration to do so,” the officer said. He added, “While monitoring the activities of the accused, they found the Solapur unit was linked to the drugs that were being smuggled to the US.”

A team from the DEA had earlier too visited the Thane police and shared information about the activities of alleged druglord Vicky Goswami linked to the seven accused arrested by them.
