Domestic help jumps off Wadala highrise

A 19-year-old domestic help allegedly committed suicide by jumping off a 17th floor balcony in Bhakti Park area in Wadala Tuesday morning.

A 19-year-old domestic help allegedly committed suicide by jumping off a 17th floor balcony in Bhakti Park area in Wadala Tuesday morning. Police ruled out foul play but said they were probing all angles.

Wadala TT police identified the deceased as Mansi Gupta (19),who worked for the Shah family and lived with them in their in Cosmic Heights building.

She allegedly jumped out of a corridor window around 10.30 am. No suicide note was found on her person or in her luggage,police said.

“Mansi’s employer,Poonam Shah,saw her climb on to the window ledge and tried to stop her. However,the door to another apartment opened and Poonam looked away,hoping to get her neighbour’s help in stopping Mansi. By then,Mansi jumped off,” said assistant commissioner (Sion division) Rajdoot Rupawate.

Mansi was taken to Sion Hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Poonam’s husband Amitesh told police he was at work at the time of the incident.

Police said Mansi was married to one Rajesh Gupta,who works in the same area,and would meet him every week.

“We have been told Mansi recently learned that Rajesh had married someone else without her knowledge,which had strained their relationship. Mansi removed the SIM card from her cellphone and threw it because Rajesh would not stop calling. Rajesh is untraceable and we are trying to locate him,” Rupawate said.

Police have registered an accidental death report.
