The new state Director General of Police Praveen Dixit Wednesday initiated a new programme to provide support to the families of the policemen working in Gadchiroli.

From now, the department will provide all necessary support to the families of those who have to face many problems in the absence of the bread-earner of the family. “About 35% of the work force in Gadchiroli comes from far-off districts, mostly from Marathwada. It is generally not very easy for them to visit their families when needed. In such cases, the families face a lot of problems,” said a senior police officer.

The jawans put forth the matter when Dixit met them during his three-day Gadchiroli visit. The DGP said that all possible help will be provided to the families, with the Superintendents of Police from the respective districts doing the needful, the officer added.

“At times, the families face problems like disputes over agricultural land, health of a family member, admission of children to schools etc. It is not always possible for a jawan posted in deep interiors to immediately come out. In such cases the families have no one to fall back on. That is why a support system was necessary and the new DGP immediately set the ball rolling,” the officer concluded.
