Deonar dumping ground fire: Fadnavis asks BMC to probe sabotage angle

The BMC commissioner said all steps have been taken to bring the smoke under control.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Saturday asked the BMC chief to investigate the possibility of sabotage in the dumping ground fire at Deonar in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai.

In a statement issued here, Fadnavis said, “I have asked the BMC commissioner (Ajoy Mehta) to probe into possibility of sabotage.” The BMC commissioner has informed that the smoke is substantially under control, he added.

The BMC commissioner said all steps have been taken to bring the smoke under control.

Earlier, Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar along with corporator (BJP) Manoj Kotak visited the Deonar dumping ground. Shelar said, “We have demanded that a thorough inquiry be done to find out the cause behind the fire at the dumping ground. What triggered the fire? And why was there a delay in tackling the fire?”
