In an armed daylight robbery at a private financial institution in Navi Mumbai on Saturday afternoon, five masked men carrying revolvers held four persons at gun-point and made away with valuables worth approximately Rs 6 crore.
The accused also broke the CCTV cameras as they fled. Popular Finance’s office is at Sector 42 in Sea Woods, Navi Mumbai.
As per Navi Mumbai police, the incident took place around 3 pm. Five masked men barged into the bank where the four employees were working.
“The accused persons were carrying revolvers and knives and threatened the employees to not raise an alarm. The accused then told the employees to get them the gold and the cash kept in the lockers,” an officer said.
The robbers then allegedly started smashing the CCTV cameras inside the bank. They also pulled out the hard disc on which the CCTV footage was stored.
After transferring the cash and valuables — currently estimated to be 23 kg gold and Rs 9 lakh in cash — the accused allegedly got in the four-wheeler in which they had come to the place and fled.
A senior officer said, “While the accused have taken the CCTV cameras from the place, we are checking the cameras that are present along the route. There are certain leads in the case. We are recording the statements of the four employees who were present at the spot. We have also asked for a list of employees who worked at the organisation in the past.”
