Couple found dead in drain in Vasai,probe on

The bodies of a young couple were recovered from a drain in Vasai,situated on the Vasai-Nalasopara road near Tulinjgaon,on Tuesday morning.

The bodies of a young couple were recovered from a drain in Vasai,situated on the Vasai-Nalasopara road near Tulinjgaon,on Tuesday morning. According to the police,the bodies were dumped in the drain the duo were killed.

The officers of the Manikpur police station at Vasai said that they received a call Tuesday. It was from a passerby who saw the bodies floating in the drain. The dran is located near a bridge about half a km from Vasai’s residential complex —Suncity.

The deceased have been identified as 22-year-old Joseph Prakash Salve,a resident of Nalasopara east and Priyanka Mohite,21,a Kandivli resident.

The police said that Salve was a school dropout. However,he had cleared his HSC privately and was employed with a firm.

The officers investigating the case said that the bodies were fished out with the help of fire brigade officials. “Postmortem was conducted on the bodies at Navghar hospital. The report said that Salve was strangulated to death. Mohite had a deep cut on the right side of her neck that caused her death,” said police inspector,K S Hegaje of Manikpur police station.

The police said that it is suspected that the two victims knew each other. They added that they were last seen on Monday afternoon by locals in the area.

The police officers have contacted Salve’s family members. However,they are yet to get in touch with the girl’s parents.

Based on the autopsy reports,the police have registered a case against the unidentified accused under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 302 for murder.

“The identity of the couple was established based on a few documents found in their pockets. We are recording the statements of the families of the couple to find out whether robbery was the motive behind the murders. However,we have found the gold chain on the girl’s neck untouched,” said an officer from the Manikpur police station.
