State Home Minister R R Patil said Monday that IPS officers will not be allowed to buy more than one flat under government schemes.

He admitted police officers had bought more than one flat under government schemes and quotas and then rented them out while they themselves live in government quarters.

Patil said police officers with flats in the their name or that of immediate kin will not be allowed to avail government accommodation.

“Police officers stay in quarters provided by the home and general administration departments. I have asked the department to collate information on how many plots meant for police housing have been used for other purpose.

“As far as flats under the home department are concerned, police officers will not be allowed to stay in these quarters if they already own a house.

“Henceforth,an IPS officer will be allowed to buy only one house under government schemes. We will soon come out with a policy in this regard,” he said.
