In a bid to reserve a seat for their corporator’s family member, over 500 Congress workers protested outside Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam’s office on Sunday. They demanded that the seat of ward number 19 (Kandivali Laljipada) should be given to the wife of sitting corporator Kamlesh Yadav.

“Since my ward has now been reserved for OBC women, residents and party workers feel the seat should not go to an outsider but be given to a local candidate who understands the issues in the area. According to them, someone from my family would be a good choice and therefore demanded a seat for my wife Shantidevi,” said Yadav,Congress corporator from Ward 19.

“We wanted someone who is active in politics and a good corporator. When we demanded that Yadav’s wife be given a seat from the area,we were told that no family member will get a seat,” said Nizamudin Khan, president of ward 19.

In another incident, last week, aggrieved BJP workers ransacked two of their party offices in Chembur and Worli as they were unhappy about the seats given to Shiv Sena.
