The Congress released its final list of official candidates on Wednesday, making it apparent that the list would cause further disgruntlement among party workers – six of the 28 names released are relatives of legislators. Further, while Ward 43 (Collectors Colony Malvani) had been allotted to taluka Congress chief Farzana Bakali according to the ealier list, this was amended to accommodate MLA Aslam Shaikhs sister.
Party sources said with some legislators successfully convincing senior party leadership about nominating their kin,the remaining MLAs who had sought tickets for relatives could not be ignored. In the end,the Congress is fielding six relatives of MLAs,the son of a former MLA as well as a slew of relatives of outgoing corporators.
The final list declared on Wednesday included the names of Sagar Singh (son of MLA Ramesh Singh Thakur) from Ward 26 in Kandivli,Qumarjahan Siddiqi (sister of Aslam Shaikh) from Ward 43 in Malvani,Sangeeta Handore (wife of Chandrakant Handore) in Ward 148 in Chembur,Nitesh Singh (Son of MLA Rajhans Singh) from Ward 159 in Kurla,Prathamesh Kolambkar (Son of MLA Kalidas Kolambkar) from Ward 184 in Dadar and Samir Chavan (Son of MLA Madhu Chavan) from Ward 204 in Byculla.
An earlier list had already included Samadhan Sarvankar, son of former MLA Sada Sarvankar in Ward 182 in Mahim.
