The Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday accused Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of shielding Sangli district’s BJP unit chief Prithviraj Deshmukh, who has allegedly taken control of Sangli’s prestigious Walchand College of Engineering (WCE).

AAP spokesperson Preeti Sharma Menon said at a press conference Tuesday that the government was supporting Deshmukh in his bid to grab prime land owned by the WCE.

Menon said that Deshmukh was after the college’s property. “Fadnavis has shown solidarity with Deshmukh by attending a function he held on August 12 in Sangli,” said Menon. “State Education Minister Vinod Tawde, too, has been silent on the hostile takeover of the college,” she said.
